Alexis Dillon

Alexis Dillon has been photographing the world for over 35 years, specializing in black-and-white and infrared images. Using a variety of formats - 35 mm, 2- 1/4, panorama, Polaroid and digital infrared cameras. Allowing the message to select the medium she chooses the appropriate tool for the concept she is conveying. Alexis is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Visual Arts & Photography instruction.

She is a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Society of Artists, and the Silver Eye Center for Photography. She taught art and photography in a public high school for 30 years and now is concentrating on her own work. She teaches clay and painting at the Main Exhibit Gallery in Ligonier. The Arts and Heritage Westmoreland Art Nationals has named her Photographer of the Year in 1992, 1997 and 2008.

Alexis has received awards among which are the Southwestern Pennsylvania Regional Exhibit, Westmoreland Nationals, Manchester Craftsman's Guild, the Southwestern Pennsylvania Council for the Arts, Southern Alleghenies Museum Triennial, Fred Rogers Juried Art Exhibition, and New Growth Arts Festival. Alexis has exhibited in solo exhibits at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, California University of PA, Main Exhibit Gallery, St. Vincent College Gallery, Greensburg Garden and Civic Center and the Greensburg-Hempfield Library.

Additional venues include: Carnegie Museum of Art, Southern Alleghenies Museum, Westmoreland Museum of American Art, Harrisburg Art Museum and Three Rivers Arts Festival. In addition, Alexis recently had a solo photography exhibit at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art (SAMA).

Alexis is represented in collections in the Hempfield School District, the Southmoreland School District, Friends of Pittsburgh Public Schools, Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, Butler Hospital, and numerous private collections.
